Other Rules
• Organizational security. Students may not attempt to access the building network, school, or teacher documents, or use another person’s passwords.
• Privacy. The teachers and principals may access any information on any computer including documents and web history for any reason. Students may not access a classmate’s documents, delete, or alter any files not created by that student.
• Computer monitoring. Students will be using laptops under the supervision of the teacher and listen to and follow directions in order to complete necessary assignments.
• Appropriate Internet use. Students will be directed toward specific internet searches and websites which are age appropriate and educational in nature. Teachers will model appropriate Internet research techniques during the school year, as students gain techniques to become responsible independent users of the Internet. Students may not use the Internet for sending or receiving inappropriate, obscene, or graphic material.
• Use of computers for harassment, fraud or other crimes. It is unacceptable to use impolite, abusive, or otherwise harmful language in any document or in public or private messages. Advocating bullying, discrimination, or violence is not permitted. Students must not violate any laws or commit any crimes through the school computers or network.
• Copyright concerns. Students may not post, send, or download copyrighted material.
• Plagiarism. Plagiarism is the use of another person’s ideas or writing and presenting them as if they were original ideas of the student. Plagiarism is not permitted in any way, and lessons during this school year will address appropriate citing of sources.
• Piracy. Piracy is copying or sharing unauthorized files. Students may not download music or movies of any kind onto school computers.
• Due care of hardware. Students must take great care in handling school computer equipment. No programs may be downloaded or installed on school computers. Students may not attempt to intentionally install a virus or harmful software on school computers
It is the responsibility of the student to:
FIRST OFFENSE: up to 1 week off the computer
SUBSEQUENT OFFENSES: up to 2 weeks off the computer
SEVERE OFFENSES: at the discretion of the teacher and/or principal
I am also aware that I will be responsible for writing up the reason(s) for any poor choices I make in order to inform my parents. My parents will be required to read and sign the “Computer Misuse and Consequences Form” before I am allowed to return to using the computer. I also know that I will complete any assignments with paper/pencil, library and other resources as appropriate.
- I agree to follow directions given by my teacher, both orally and written
- I agree to use the computer only when instructed to do so by my teacher
- I agree to use the computer as a tool for learning.
- I agree never to download without the teacher’s permission.
- I agree that if a gray box comes up, I’ll raise my hand and wait for a teacher’s assistance.
- I agree to use only my first name when communicating on the Internet.
- I agree that I will not access the Control Panel or Properties program for any reason.
NO OPEN SEARCHES
- I agree to work from the websites given to me by my teacher. I will not stray from those websites at any time unless directed by my teacher. (NO GOOGLE SEARCHES)
- I understand that it is my responsibility to quietly signal the teacher without drawing attention to myself if something inappropriate appears on my screen.
SHARED WORKSPACE
- I agree to cooperate with other students when completing a project or an assignment and to respect classmates’ feelings and opinions.
- I understand that if I am unable to share and take turns at the workstation, my teacher will help me to come up with a solution. If this does not resolve the problem, I will be removed from the workstation.
- I agree to only open my own files and to ask permission before using someone else’s computer.
- When helping another student, I agree to use only my voice and allow them the use the mouse.
COMPUTER RESPECT
- I agree to use the computer appropriately, so as not to damage the workstation, software, or discs.
- I understand that it is my responsibility to report any accidental damage to the teacher immediately.
- I understand that I am never to put CDs or discs from home in the computer at any time.
- If, at any time, I choose to not follow these guidelines, I fully understand that I will not be allowed to use the computer for a period of time as follows:

- Have no food or drink around computers.
- Save your work to your own folder.
- Stay out of other student’s folders.
- Give credit for someone else’s information.
- Keep your information private. Do not tell anyone about yourself.
- Tell the teacher immediately if you have an inappropriate site come up. Do not share with your friends.
- Have permission from the teacher to download anything on the computer.
